Coronado Retreat...Treat!

Wow, what an amazing weekend....Miss Jane , Deb Hodge, April and Melanie pulled off the most beautiful Retreat and Market. I am so proud that I was a part of it.

Deb's bags she made for the retreat...I love it!

I first arrived Friday night to help all the ladies set up. Julie Haymaker-Thomas was teaching two workshops over the weekend. Miss Julie is a heavenly soul...SOOOO talented and calm all at the same time.

Here are the candy bars I made for "The Sand Castle Sirens"...

Mycandybar

First I wrapped the bar with sandpaper and then used my favorite rubberstamp ever....Below are a few little comforts I created for Jane's guests....The snuggly socks were a hit!

Once the Market got started it was so much fun being with my friends, Tricia, Joy, Deb, Sherry, Linda, Kristen, Jessi....

Of course I was right next to my Gypsy Soul Sister, Tricia...Can you tell how much fun we have together?

The most rewarding part is that the weekend was for a great cause.

But spending quality girlfriend time with gals I don't get to see all the time meant the world to me...

a dream come true

I just got my copy of the Summer 2009 issue of C Magazine, and there it was!

Having our home in Channel Islands Harbor in C truly is a dream come true. I have been a huge fan of C since the beginning. No other magazine covers all that is wonderful in California better than C.

C Mag Cover

Now that the issue is on the news stand, I got C Magazine Design and Style Editor, Andrea Stanford's blessing to post the entire article here.

Here we are on Charlie's little boat. It always feels like an adventure. So different from our life in L.A.
CMAG

Steve and I wanted the decor to reflect the location of our home without it feeling too "kitschy nautical". We found all of the boat paintings at local antique stores.
None of them are really great art, but they make a fantastic collection.
CMAG2

Boy, are Steve and I getting old! Thank goodness, Lisa Romerein is a great photographer. I think she softened the focus a bit. Ha!
Our home is really just a 1970's box. We painted it white as soon as we bought it.
It's so cool to be able to dock our boat just behind our home.
Because Oxnard is a pretty windy place we do a lot of kite flying with these huge sport kites. The kids love it.
CMAG3

We brought the "Charlie" chairs up from the shop for the shoot. They looked so good that we left them at the house and are making new ones for the shop.
I added olive trees on the hearth. They help give some scale to our two story living room. We used inexpensive Dash and Albert cotton rugs over our wall to wall seagrass.
CMAG4

Our simple bedroom made it into the magazine too. Nothing like white linen and
a few antique store finds to create a room with a soothing personality.
CMAG5

Steve's office is really just the landing above our living room. It has the best view in the house.  Mary did a fantastic job arranging all of the shelves. She is a display goddess. Love you, Mary!
CMAG6

As many of you know, my bathroom is my favorite room in the house. I love my Bathworks tub!
CMAG7

My favorite interiors are those that combine high with low. My Gustavian cabinet was definitely a splurge, but my little vintage lights, old frames, and painting were all inexpensive flea market and antique store finds. My Bousac sheer fabric is just simply hung on small rings from a plain 3/8" iron rod.
CMAG8

My Oly Serena Bowl Chandelier had just the right feeling for our home.
We hung my vintage oil paintings on old doors that we attached to the wall.
CMAG9

This is actually my favorite ship painting that we own. I love the pink color of the sails.  This vignette really works for me. I like the combination of my Mom and Granny's decanters with the more masculine painting.
CMAG10

I can't thank C Magazine, Design and Style Editor Andrea Stanford, writer Sally Schultheiss, and photographer Lisa Romerein for making this girl's dream a reality.

Gorgeous Teri...

You may not recognize my girlfriend here, although her beautiful soul shines through....

But I'm sure you will recognize her here...

En Vogue

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u_Gvs6SUUY Click Here...Watch these beautiful girls on "The View" last month...

The Original Funky Divas..."En Vogue". THE ORIGINALS.

I hardly get star struck living in L.A. but when Miss Teri Ellis walked through the doors of "Sweetpeas" a few years ago, I was beyond star struck...elated!

When I first moved to Cali with my girlfriend Kimberly. We would dance the night away at "The Roxbury"...Come home and put on "Your Never Gonna Get It" and perfect our "En Vogue" moves. The craziest part was that I was always Teri..I mean it...She was my fave.

Well you know Miss Teri is a beyond talented musician but you may be interested to know she is an amazing artist and lover of all things Vintage...One of us!

Teri has a professional crafting studio where she creates one of a kind journals and art.

I spent a giggly afternoon with my girlfriend yesterday and I'm sending her all the love in the world.

"En Vogue" is back in the studio and will be touring this summer. Move over all you wannabes...The Divas are back!

I will leave you with this little tune that you know we all sang our hearts out to....

No, you're never gonna get it (Ow!)
Never ever gonna get it (No, not this time)
No, you're never gonna get it (My love)
Never ever gonna get it
(repeat)

I remember how it used to be
You never was this nice, you can't fool me
Now you talkin' like you made a change
The more you talk, the more things sound the same
What makes you think you can just walk back into her life
Without a good fight? Oh...
I just sit back and watch you make a fool of yourself
Cuz you're just wasting your time, oh...

CHORUS
No, you're never gonna get it (Not this time)
Never ever gonna get it (My lovin')
No, you're never gonna get it (Had your chance to make a change)
Never ever gonna get it
(repeat)

Now you promise me the moon and stars
Save your breath, you won't get very far
Gave you many chances to make change
The only thing you changed was love to hate
It doesn't matter what you do or what you say
She doesn't love you, no way
Maybe next time you'll give your woman a little respect
So you won't be hearing her say, "No way"

CHORUS

Doesn't matter what you do or what you say
She don't love you, no way
Maybe next time you'll give your woman a little respect
So you won't be hearing her say, "No way"

[And now it's time for a breakdown...]

Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it (whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa)
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never get it

No, you're never gonna get it (Sweet lovin')
Never ever gonna get it (Sweet lovin')
No, you're never gonna get it (My lovin')
Never ever gonna get it (My lovin')
No, you're never gonna get it (Sweet lovin')
Never ever gonna get it (My lovin')
No, you're never gonna get it (Sweet lovin')
Never ever gonna get it (My lovin')...

Thank You....

All of your prayers and good thoughts for Mikey helped us through the past few weeks...especially my girlfriends (you know who you are!)

A Lovely Lady, A Sad Day in L.A....

I don't care who you are ...You were influenced by the Original Queen of Vintage.

Miss Rachel Ashwell of "Shabby Chic".

I know I was.

When I first moved to California 20 years ago , I spent my entire paycheck on a set of Shabby Chic sheets (literally). They were my most prized possession.

I was lucky enough to live in California were Rachel was always in her Flagship store on Montana Ave.. She is a delightful, creative genius. We always seemed to run into each other at early morning flea markets and she always greeted me with a smile in her signature white t-shirt and jeans.  Rachel highly influenced my entertaining style, I can admit I borrowed many of her ideas...As artists we learn from each other and put our own twist on things.

In this sad state of the economy one of the biggest Retail losses will be "Shabby Chic"...Sure, It's at Target but the ethereal experience of her stores is gone.

I know Rachel, she will surely surprise us and reinvent herself...again.

I can honestly say she was my biggest influence over the years. I felt a huge sadness as they were moving out yesterday.

Shabby

We wish you the best Queen Ashwell....
